Stepping out of a van, General Granite glanced at all the military jeeps surrounding a man hole in an empty street of New York. A solider quickly pried a manhole cover out with a crowbar. "Hm," looking at a terminal computer, Granite studied the digital map of the sewer system. Thanks to intel, they discovered a large group of anthros hiding deep within the sewers, along with many homeless people that taken home to the tunnels below. Now normally, whenever the military goes into locating anthro shelters, that accursed hedgehog butts in. Well this time, he hoped she will come.

He sighed as he looked at the dirty water of the sewers... hidden underneath a cloak as he walked towards where the others are. He took out a book and started to write something in it. Day whatever in my life as a walking talking... thing... Being here in the NY sewers makes me wonder if there's any point of actually being alive...
There's no point on going outside though... because it'll jsut be instant death...
Well, the people will stay alive... it's just us... I hate being like this! I hate it! I also hate... him.... for doing this...He put the journal away for a bit so he could concentrate on going around the corner.... He was feeling hungry, so he hope he'll get something to eat... no matter what it is...

"Heya, furry-dude." a human in raggy clothes spoke when seeing the furry person walk by. Sitting beside the curved tunnel that led to a large earthy dome, the man searched in a red cooler. "Ya hungry?"

"A... bit...." He muttered, shyly.

"Yeeee-up..." and he pulled out a wide-shaped item wrapped in foil. Unfoiling it, it was revealed to be steaming chili dogs. "Me and the boys been hunting for so many cans to recycle. I tell ya, recycling is a wonderful thing."

"You damn right it is." he said, handing it to him. "Chili dogs are so gonna become the snack of tomorrow; I guarantee."

"Boy, you guys are lucky..." He said. "I wish I helped you with the cans... but with that major bigot on the loose..."

"Yeeeee-up." Standing up, the man grinned. "Makes me feel that being a homeless bum is a wonderful thing." Laughing loud, the man gave one hard pat on the furry one's head.

He removed his cloak... ...and sighed. "So... uh... how are the others...?"

"Eh, you know..." he muttered, walking down the steps that led to the earthy dome. It looked like one raggy flea market, or campsite. But even in rags, the verity of people were a marvelous sight. Humans and anthros sharing one room, building up tents for each others, and more.
How funny when the anthros first arrived, many people thought they were sewer monsters...and technically they were right. Actually, there were sewer monsters, like them mutant rats that seemed to be also cyborgs. Those were some that people had to watch out for. When they do arrive, they had to throw all the food they had to them, then they'll leave.
But the more domestic and civilized 'monsters'...boy howdy, they sure know how to dance, which they are now living with them.

He smiled slightly as he watched this. He took out his journal and wrote into it... Why haven't I just killed myself? Simple reason... I somewhat have this belief that humans and anthros can live together in peace and harmony... we're all living beings... created by nature...
But, as long as that bigot is about... that dream will be hard to get...He closed it and walked down...

Somewhere further in the sewer systems, a couple of groups hid in the shadows, barely making much sounds, except with their weaponry they carried.
"Sup there, Cid! How's that friggin TV working?" the old man asked a young man, sitting in front of a tent. He, and a turtle anthro were fiddling with the inside of a TV like a brain.
"Like crap!"
"Great!!" turning to a couple of raccoons caring for a baby. "And how's the young one doing?"
Before they would speak, their little baby burped, spewing on the mother's chest.
"Glad to hear!!" he gleefully said.

He flinched a bit at the baby raccoon, taking off his cloak. "I'll go and find something that'll clean that off, ma'am..."

"Oh, thank you." she spoke, while trying to calm her crying baby.
Meanwhile, carefully keeping close in the darkness, the troops peaked over an intersecting tunnel, staring at the long tunnel that ended with a orange light, and vague sights of earthy walls. Nodding that they founded the 'nest', one troop silently pointed at another tunnel for his crew to dash into, so they can go around the dome and surround them.

He walked around the 'nest', trying to find something that is clean for the lady to use.... and doesn't belong to anyone.... he doesn't want to steal it from another person... If it has to be like this... he might as well take the blame.... all of it...

Meanwhile, because it was a large place, the troops had to trail around the moist tunnels to get into position...
Little did they know, some beings lurked within the walls.

He finally found a clean towel that no one was using and walked back to where the raccoon couple was.... not hard to locate them due to a crying baby... He recalled an entry in his journal he wrote sometime ago... An entry that he still fears.... Everyday, we leave below the sewers... and everyday, I spoke to some of the others about this and they shared something that I fear...
We fear that one day, our luck will run out and the one known as Granite will attack us...
We all hope it will never happen... as this is our only home left in the world... If we lose this, then we're no longer safe... Because of Granite, we anthros are hated amongst the world...
If there was only hope for us...He written that five months ago... and he always remember it each day... He smirked to himself, shaking his head. And everyday is the same answer... I'm being paranoid...He reached nearer to the raccoons, sighing. We've been hiding here for a very long time... we're safe... that's what I should believe in...

And suddenly, from nearly every tunnel sticking out of the walls, came flying cans that spewed out gas. Landing on the ground, many engulfed in the smoke quickly passed out.

He was in the area where the gas hasn't reached yet as he whirled around in horror at this attack... "Oh no... No, it can't be!!!" He darted his head about, he had to think of a way to get these people to escape! To help the raccoon family to escape... but, if it came out from every tunnel then.... We're trapped!!!

The troops, all wearing gas masks moved in, aiming their rifles. Carefully circling around, they waited for the gas to knock everyone out before would have the chance to capture them and... BOOOOM!!!A piece of the earthy wall exploded; chunks blasting over the dome. Within the smoke, all could be seen was electricity over some stringy tails, until the owners of them stepped forward, nearly as big as pickup trucks. Rat Bots, extremely dangerous mutants that were effected by the comet. Many anthros never evolved fully like the ones in danger, and even some monsters, when they were mutated, had unnatural changes thanks to the environment they were in. Since the sewer rats are always around machines and metal, their bodies were fused, making them seem almost robotic. Conveniently, they lashed onto the cans, chewing on them, while a few sucked up the gas. The residence of the tunnels would know that these rats side no one...

And the conscious anthros, as well as a few human hobos quickly darted up the steel stairs, including the raccoon family with the baby. The troops tried aiming their rifles at them, but just the hostile act disturbed the rat bots, lashing right at them.

He ran after the others, looking his shoulder as his eyes showed fear. How could they found us...? We didn't leave any proof that would lead them here... how...?

"There're escaping through the tunnels!" one solider shouted in a communicator as the troops kept firing at the mutant rats. Though the bullet bounced off their armor, there were places in between that weren't covered in metal, and those areas they were hit in; killing them on the spot.
